Merry Christmas – have a free fingerless mitts pattern to celebrate!

Criccieth Mitts:

Yarn: Colinette Jitterbug 400 (or equivalent 4 ply/ fingering weight yarn), 150g/ 360m*
Hook: 3.5mm
Tension: 12 sts and 14 rows to 2 inches in double crochet.
Notions: 10 x 1/2″ buttons of your choice.

Please note: UK crochet terms are used throughout the pattern.

Chain 34
Starting with the second loop in the chain from the hook dc into each remaining chain loop (33sts) TURN
Row 2: ch 1, dc into the top of each stitch on row 1, TURN
Repeat this row 15 more times.
Row 18: ch 1, work 1 dc in to next 15 stitches, 2 dc into next a stitch, 1 dc, 2 dc in to next stitch, work 1 dc into each of the remaining 15 stitches (35sts) TURN
Row: 19: ch 1, dc into each stitch
Row 20: ch 1, work 1 dc into next 15 stitches, 2dc into next stitch, 3 dc, 2 dc into next stitch, work 1 dc into each of the remaining 15 stitches (37sts) TURN
Row 21: ch 1, dc into each stitch

Repeat the two row sequence increasing in the same manner until you have 51stitches in total

Row 36: ch 1, wor 1 dc into the next 18 stitches, skip 15 stitches, work 1 dc into the next 18 stitches (36sts) TURN
Row 37: ch 1, work 1 dc into all 36 stitches TURN
Row 38: ch 1, work 1 dc into the next 17 stitches, dc 2 tog, work 1 dc into the next 17 stitches (35sts) TURN
Rows 39 – 47: ch 1. work 1 dc into all 35 stitches TURN
Row 48: work picot edging along top of mitt – (ch 3, 2dc) repeat to end of row. Fasten off yarn.

With WS facing join yarn and work 43 dc along left (left glove) or right (right glove) hand sides of the mitts.

Row 2: ch 2, work 3 trbls into next stitch *skip 3 stitches, work 1 dc into each of next 7 stitches, skip 3 stitches, work 7 trbls nto next stitch, repeat from * ending the last repeat with 4 trbls into the last stitch.
Row 3: ch 1, work 1 dc into each stitch TURN
Row 4: ch 1, work 1 dc into each of the first 4 stitches * skip 3 stitches, work 7 trbls into the next stitch, skip 3 stitches, work 1 dc into each of the next 7 stitches. Repeat from * to last 11 stitches, skip 3 stitches, work 7 trbls into the next stitch, skip 3 stitches, work 1 dc into each of the last 4 stitches. TURN
Row 5: repeat row 3
Row 6: ch 3 (counts as 1 trbl) work 3 trbls into first stitch * skip 3 stitches, work 1 dc into each of the next 7 stitches, skip 3 stitches, work 7 trbls into the next stitch. Repeat from * ending last repeat with 4 trbls into last dc. TURN
Row 7: repeat row 3
Row 8: repeat row 4
Fasten off yarn.

To finish off sew in loose ends at start and end of glove. Lap upper hand edge over under hand edge and join the seams with 5 equally spaced buttons (on each glove) by sewing through both edges.

* Pattern only uses appox 80g/ 192m of yarn so may be suitable for part skeins you may have left over from other projects.
