After making my Criccieth mitts last year I decided I really needed a hat to co-ordinate with them so I came up with the pattern for this hat. It has just enough slouch in it for comfort but not so much that I feel like a teenager or a hipster! The texture on the body of the hat reminded me of pine cones and the co-ordinating ribbing in green decided the pattern name for me.
Colour A: 50g/ 150m Colinette Jitterbug 400*
Colour B: 50g/ 150m Colinette Jitterbug 400

To make hat:
Using 2.75mm needles and colour A cast on 144 sts and join in the round being careful not to twist stitches

Repeat this round until work measures 3″ from cast on edge.
For the main body of the hat change to yarn colour B and 3mm needle.

Round 20: Purl

Draw yarn through remaining stitches to close the top of the hat. Weave in ends and block as required**
* Colinette Jitterbug comes in 150g/ 400m skeins so you will only need partial skeins of each colour
** I chose not to block my version as I wanted a snug fit, if you wanted a slightly looser fit you may be able to achieve this by blocking.
